Time Out Market Budapest
If you’re visiting Budapest and want to taste the very best of the city’s vibrant food scene all in one place, the Time Out Market Budapest (located at Blaha Lujza Square) is a must-visit.
The market is housed in a beautifully renovated historic building where modern design meets a spacious, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you are traveling solo, on a romantic getaway, or with a big group of friends with different tastes, this spot is a “gastronomic playground” that caters to everyone.
The concept is simple: the hall is lined with open kitchens where you can watch the chefs at work. You order, take a vibrating pager, and find a seat at the communal tables or cozy nooks. It’s a fantastic way to sample top-tier Hungarian restaurants and international favorites side-by-side.
Our Culinary Highlights
Here is what we tasted during our visit – each dish was a hit:
Tainan Classic Beef Noodle Soup (101 Bistro): A golden, slow-cooked, deeply flavored broth packed with juicy beef, noodles, a soft-boiled egg, and fresh spring onions.
Gluten-Free Margherita Pizza (Anyukám Mondta): Featuring San Marzano DOP tomatoes, fior di latte, and fresh basil. The crust is so good it rivals the best Italian pizzerias.
Lamb Kebab (Pingrumba): A succulent, authentic dish served with fresh pita, bringing the flavors of the Middle East to the heart of Budapest.
Sushi Selection (The Bigfish): A beautiful mosaic of salmon-goose liver, tuna-truffle, and spicy tuna rolls – fresh and expertly crafted.
Salted Caramel Floating Island (Szaletly): A reimagined Hungarian classic (“Madártej”) with olive oil droplets and a generous caramel topping.
The Vibe
After your meal, you don’t have to rush off. The market features specialized Vodka and Wine bars, and the central bar serves excellent coffee. We highly recommend moving over to the comfortable armchairs to finish your experience with a caffeine fix while watching the bustling life of the city through the windows.
Mirelle’s Tip: While we were off on other adventures when it first opened, now is the perfect time to visit! If you are traveling with a group, don’t all order from the same place. The “trap” of the Time Out Market is that everything looks delicious—the best strategy is to have everyone order from a different kitchen and share the plates in the middle of the table. It’s the ultimate way to map out Budapest’s gastronomy in a single afternoon!
