The Gourmet Festival Returns with a Countryside Focus
One of the most important events in Hungary’s gastronomic scene, the Gourmet Festival, will return this year with significant changes. Anyone who wants to experience the present of Hungarian gastronomy firsthand — and happens to be in Budapest — should not miss this festival. Instead of its usual late-May schedule, the event will take place between June 4 and June 7 at Millenáris. This year’s theme focuses on the values of rural Hungary, under the slogan “Made in Vidék” (Made in the Countryside).
Focus on rural regions and ingredients
This year, the festival aims to showcase the diversity and enduring values of rural gastronomy. The nearly 100 participating restaurants will interpret the characteristic flavors and ingredients of Hungary’s countryside according to their own creative concepts.
Among the highlighted exhibitors will be Platán, the country’s only two-Michelin-starred restaurant outside Budapest, and Anyukám Mondta, whose return to the Gourmet Festival after a longer break is especially welcome. Visitors will also find Iszkor, a Bib Gourmand restaurant, Villa Kabala, which holds a Green Michelin Star, and Papi, the countryside sibling of the Michelin-starred Babel restaurant in Budapest, making its debut at the festival.
New venue and educational programs
One of the event’s new features will be a dedicated location where renowned chefs will prepare limited-quantity countryside classics. The menu will include dishes such as Baja-style fish soup, Karcag mutton stew, rooster stew, and a contemporary interpretation of goulash.
Professional and educational experiences will be offered by the Gourmet Academy, which will host free lectures and workshops for visitors. The closing day, Sunday, will focus on family programs, and entry will be free for visitors under the age of 18.
Tickets and access
Discounted early-bird tickets for the festival are already available. A day ticket costs 7,900 HUF, while a four-day pass is available for 15,900 HUF, and both can be purchased through the festival’s official online platforms.
